Look through the list below as we try to explain how to preform tasks within the Engineer Wizard App.
Reach out to us if there is something you would like us to add into this help section,
When you start the app it will give you a welcome message and then take to into the menu editor.
The menu editor allows you to build your own menu exactly how you would like to be setup, it make take you a few attempts to get it sorted to how you want to it to be, there is no one menu system fit's all so its completely dynamic.
The examples shown are for Fire and Security Engineers but the app could work in any role, you just create the menu differently.
so lets get started.
The menu edit view shows three boxes in the top left corner where you can type in your discipline, manufacturer and product and the important buttons we are interested in are "Add", "Update" and "Delete" the other buttons are mainly for debugging reasons and may or may not remain within the app.
We will look at the functionality of the Add, Update and Delete buttons shortly but before then lets start by adding a new menu item.
Let's start from scratch and type "Fire" into the discipline box, type "Gent" as a manufacturer and lets add a product called "Vigilon" and now press the add button.
The add button will add this entry in to your menu system, if you wish to amend or delete the entry simply select it from the list, as you add more menu items will see the list of menus increase you can update or delete or add more entries at any time.
There is also an "expert" option when using the menu editor and for speed we simply type in a discipline and press add this will automatically set the manufacturer and product to *'s the reason for this will be come more obvious when we look at importing documents.
Importing documents into the app is a simple task, you can import a single file, directory or multiple directories
Before you start importing any documents into the app you need to select the discipline, manufacturer and product from your menu.
In this example you should already have a "Fire" discipline, manufacturer is "Gent" and your product is "Vigilon" so anything we import will import into this product, so this would be where you import all your gent vigilon documents.
Importing a single file lets click on menu's and press the "+" symbol on the menu bar.
Select "Catalog (normal)" from the options and select "Add File" this will import a single file.
Now you will have a file manager page where you can select a single document, once you select the file will populate the product page and you will see a pdf icon along with a title and text saying scanned on the date, if you click on the box it will open the pdf so you can view it.
Importing a directory lets click on menu's and press the "+" symbol on the menu bar.
Select "Catalog (normal)" from the options and select "Add Directory" this will import a directory and sub directories.
Now you will have a file manager page where you can select a directory, once you select the directory the app will start scanning and cataloging the files within the directory and sub directory once its completed it will populate the product page and you will see multiple pdf's icon along with titles and text saying scanned on the date, if you click on the box it will open the pdf so you can view any of the files,
This option is for experts it will allow you to create menu items, it might take a couple of attempts to get an understanding of how it works so remember you can remove menu items if you make a mistake but it will also remove any thumbnails and data contained within the deleted menu item
The easy way to use the expert mode is to go into the menu editor and add a discipline and then press "Add" this will make a discipline with the manufacturer being called * and a product called * and it does that for a reason will explain shortly.
Now return to the menu and select the product for the menu you just created, once again press on manuals and then press the "+" as you have done previously,
This time press "Catalog (expert)" and select "Choose Directory" now read the next paragraph twice so it makes some sense,
In this example we created a discipline called "Access Control" so now we want to navigate to the route of our Access Control directory.
Within my Access Control directory I have multiple sub directories that are named as manufacturer names and inside those directories there are product directories.
When you import it will create manufacturer and product pages for each and every directory you import using this tool, this means all your menus are created with complete manufacture and product names all being shown under the access control discipline.
Now only does it import all your menu items it will also populate all your documents within each directory so the only task left is to thumbnail your documents.
I would have a play with this expert option, to a degree the success if based on how you manage your directories.
Thumbnailing in the Engineer Wizard is not something you have to do, it can take time and it does take up space, you don't have to thumbnail but the app will auto thumbnail when you open a manual.
When you open a product page and see a lot of pdf icons you can simply press on the picture icon on the menu bar and it will ask you two options.
1. Remove And Regenerate
This will remove any previous thumbnails and regenerate all the items within the product page.
2. Regenerate Missing Only
This will regenerate missing thumbnails only, it's a quicker option if you have an odd few that need thumbnailing.
If your app contains a password it will not thumbnail until you enter the password which it will ask when you try to open the file.
Within the product pages there is a trashcan delete button, this will remove all items with the product page, it will not remove the file but it will remove the data and the thumbnails, it does NOT remove the menu entry for this product.
If you remove by mistake simply import again.
Every document has a title and a note when you import it adds the scanned on message but you can leave notes against any document, you can also change the title. Remember the app does not use filenames so you can change the title if you wish to, but be mindful as some manuals use the part number as the title like intercom handsets for example so if you rename it to intercom handset 3 it wont show up when you search for a product code.
To view the editor simply long press on the title or note for the document, it wont activate holding onto the image once you long press you will see the options to edit, save and cancel but be mindful of the delete button.
The delete button will remove this product from the page !!
